How to Start Kendo

 Course Information

20th Cohort Kendo Experience Class (Hong Kong Island) - Wanchai

 

Date: 25/6 - 3/9/2023  (Every Sunday) (Exclude 9/7, 6/8 and 13/8)

Venue: 1/F Harbour Rd Sports Centre, Wanchai

Time: 09:00 - 10:30  (AM) (start time will be at 8:30am subject to special condition)

Fee: HK$600 (8 Lessons)

Gear: HK$450 (Waived if using own bamboo sword and undergone safety check conducted by the coach) (please pay to the coach at the first lesson)

Age: 10 – 65 years old

Application Deadline: On first-come-first-served basis

Content: Kendojo etiquette and discipline, kendo basics e.g. bamboo sword handling, footwork, and punch strike practice, agility and self-confidence will be enhanced.


a. Kendo Regular Practice (For Member Only)

Time:7:00pm-8:30pm (Every Monday)
Venue:No.2 Activity Room, Queen Elizabeth Stadium, 18 Oi Kwan Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong 
Time:8:00pm-9:30pm (Every Wednesday)
Venue:

Activity Room, 4/F, Wong Nai Chung Sports Centre, 2 Yuk Sau Street, Happy Valley



b. Free Training/Keiko (Participant must be bogu wearer)

Time:9:00pm-11:00pm (Every Friday)
Venue:Dance Room, Island East Sports Centre, 52 Lei King Road, Sai Wan Ho, Hong Kong



c. Kendo Kata/Iaido Free Training (8:30a.m.-9:30a.m.)
   Squad Training (9:30a.m.-11:30a.m.)(For Qualified Persons Only)
   Godou Keiko (11:30a.m.-12:30p.m.)

Time:08:00-12:00 (Every Sunday)
Venue:Please refer to the HKKA schedule



(Course B & C are recommended for qualified members or members with coach referral.) (The training venue and time may vary; mainly on Hong Kong Island, HKKA will not inform members personnally on any change on venue and time, thus members are strongly advised to check the time and venue on Time Table at HKKA website before each class.)



2. Membership Fee

Membership Fee:

HKD$300 (Pay once only)

Annual Fee:

HKD$220 ($110 Pay half if joining from July)

Monthly Fee:

HKD$ 300 per month X 3 months (To be settled quarterly)

Total payment for the new member:

HKD$1,420/HKD$1,310 ($110 less if joining from July)


Membership fee will be charged on a quarterly basis. Members shall settle the membership fee on time during these months: January, April, July, and October.

*Please inform us of any suspension/termination of membership. Otherwise, recovery actions will be taken for the outstanding membership fee.

 

3. Registration

Please send the filled application form and cheque by post or by hand to our office. Parents' signature must be provided if participants are aged under 18 years old.


4. Payment Method

  1. Participants should deposit the payment in Hong Kong Kendo Association Limited bank account in Hang Seng Bank Limited: 281- 264200-001 while using cash deposit, ATM or online transfer. The receipt should be sent to HKKA by post, e-mail or fax.
  2. The cheque should be crossed and made payable to "Hong Kong Kendo Association Limited” and send to HKKA office by post or by hand . (Cash is not accepted)

5. Equipment for beginners:

The beginner should wear proper sportswear.
A bamboo sword is required (Members can purchase equipment on their own or ask coaches for any inquiry)

Remark

  1. Information should be completely provided.
  2. No refund can be made after the application process.
  3. Participants could consider whether they have to buy insurance if necessary.
  4. Participants must consider whether they have the ability to participate. If necessary, please consult a doctor.
  5. Participants must comply with the coach instruction. Otherwise, participates would be refused to participate in the programme and no refund will be arranged.
  6. Classes will continue as usual if Typhoon Signal No. 1/ No. 3, or Amber/ Red Rainstorm Warning Signal is hoisted. When an announcement is made by the Hong Kong Observatory during the following time periods that the Tropical Cyclone Signal No. 8 or above is likely to be issued within the next two hours, classes will be canceled as indicated. No make-up class will be arranged for classes canceled due to bad weather.
