How to Start Kendo

Courses information

a. Beginner class

Time: 7:30pm-9:00pm (every Monday)
Time: 9:00pm-10:30pm (every Wednesday)
Venue: Function room 2, Wan Chai Queens Elizabeth Stadium , 2/F, 18 Oi Kwan Road, Wanchai

b. Kihon , Waza &Godou Keiko

Time: 8:00pm-10:00pm (every Tuesday)
Venue: Leighton Hill G/F, Community Hill , No.133, Wong Nai Chung Road, Happy Valley, Hong Kong

c. Free Training/Keiko (Participant must be bogu wearer)

Time: 9:00pm-11:00pm (every Friday)
Venue: Dancing Room, Island East Sports Centre, 52 Lei King Road, Sai Wan Ho, Hong Kong

d. Iaido (8:30a.m.-9:30a.m.)
Kendo Kata (9:30a.m.-10:30a.m.)
Kihon & Waza (10:30a.m.-11:30a.m.)
Godou Keiko (11:30a.m.-12:30p.m.)

Time: 08:30-12:30 (every Sunday)
Venue: Function room 2, Wan Chai Queens Elizabeth Stadium , 2/F, 18 Oi Kwan Road, Wanchai

(Course b ,c &d are recommended for qualified members or members with coach referral.) (The venue and training time may vary sometimes, it is roughly mainly in Hong Kong Island. The change of training location and time slot will not be informed personally, thus members need to keep up with the updated training time and venue online regularly.)

2. Membership fee

Entry fee HKD$300 (pay once only)

Annual fee HKD$220 ($110 joined from July)

Monthly fee HKD$ 300 X 3 months (it should be paid by quarter every time)

Total payment for the new member: HKD$1,420/HKD$1,310 (joined from July)

The membership fee will be charged on a quarterly basis, which are January, April, July and October. Members please settle the membership fee on time.

3. Registration

Please send the filled application form and cheque by post or by hand to our office. Parents' signature must be provided if participants aged under 18 years old.

4. Payment method

  1. Participants should deposit the payment in Hong Kong Kendo Association Limited bank account in Hang Seng Bank Limited: 281- 264200-001 while using cash deposit, ATM or online transfer. The receipt should be sent to HKKA by post, e-mail or fax.
  2. The cheque should be crossed and made payable to "Hong Kong Kendo Association Limited” and send it by post or by hand to HKKA office. (Cash is not accepted)

5. Equipment for beginners:

Beginner should wear proper sportswear.
Bamboo sward is required (Members can purchase equipment on their own or ask coaches for any enquiry)

7. Remark

  1. Information should be completely provided.
  2. No refund can be made after the application process.
  3. Participants could consider whether they have to buy insurance if necessary.
  4. Participants must consider whether they have the ability to participate. If necessary, please consult a doctor.
  5. Participants must comply with coach’s instruction. Otherwise, participates would be refused to participate in the programme and no refund will be arranged.
  6. Classes will continue as usual if Typhoon Signal No. 1/ No. 3, or Amber/ Red Rainstorm Warning Signal is hoisted. When an announcement is made by the Hong Kong Observatory during the following time periods that the Tropical Cyclone Signal No. 8 or above is likely to be issued within the next two hours, classes will be cancelled as indicated. No make-up class will be arranged for classes cancelled due to bad weather.
